Cross Island Chapel is a small, non-denominational church on Mason’s Pond in Oneida, New York, built in 1989 and noted for its unusually small size. Measuring just four feet three inches by six feet nine inches, it has become a well-known landmark. Its placement on a dock within the pond gives it a sense of isolation, surrounded by open water and natural woodland.
Seen from a wider perspective, the chapel appears small within the open expanse of the pond. A separate cross stands on a nearby island, adding balance to the composition. The calm surface of the water and the surrounding trees create a simple, uncluttered scene that emphasises space and scale.
