Conisbrough Castle, near Doncaster in South Yorkshire, dates from the late 11th century and is one of the most distinctive Norman castles in England. Its circular keep is an unusual design, reflecting advanced defensive planning, while the surrounding curtain walls and ruins hint at the scale of the original complex. Built by the de Warenne family, the castle later became part of England’s medieval power structure and has remained a prominent landmark within the landscape ever since.
