Dunstanburgh Castle forms one of the most recognisable historic sites along the Northumberland coast, its stone towers and curtain walls dating back to the 14th century. Built to project strength and authority, the structure still carries a strong presence within the open landscape, with its weathered stonework reflecting centuries of exposure to coastal conditions.
The towers rise from slightly elevated ground, with the arched entrance visible at the centre. A small wooden gate in the foreground introduces a human scale, while the surrounding grassland keeps the composition open and uncluttered. Clear light and a simple sky allow the form and texture of the stone to remain the focus.
