The Convent of Christ in Tomar is one of Portugal’s most significant historic sites, originally founded in the 12th century as a stronghold of the Knights Templar. Later expanded by the Order of Christ, it became a centre of power and influence during the Age of Discovery. Its architecture reflects centuries of development, combining Romanesque, Gothic, Manueline, and Renaissance elements within a fortified complex that played a key role in Portuguese history.
