The Sound, lying between Harris and North Uist, is characterised by shallow waters, sandbanks, and shifting tidal channels, making clear markers essential for safe passage. These simple but vital structures help define routes through an otherwise difficult-to-read seascape shaped by constant movement beneath the surface.
