The Eurasian otter (Lutra lutra) is a semi-aquatic mammal found across rivers, lakes, and coastal areas throughout the UK and much of Europe. Once heavily impacted by pollution and habitat loss, it has made a steady recovery in recent decades. Well adapted to life in water, it has dense, insulating fur, strong swimming ability, and feeds mainly on fish and other aquatic prey.
Moving across a bed of pale, rounded stones, the otter is shown mid-step with its body slightly curved and head turned toward the viewer. The warm brown tones of its coat contrast with the lighter pebbles beneath, while the uniform background keeps the composition clean. Fine detail is visible in the fur and whiskers, emphasising both texture and form.
