The three stone windmills along the Mandraki Harbour breakwater are some of Rhodes’ most photographed landmarks – and for good reason. Once used to grind grain brought in by boat, they now stand quietly along the harbour wall, facing out to sea as they’ve done for centuries. Though no longer in use, they’ve been carefully preserved, each with its own character and weather-worn charm. Set against the blue sky and sea, they’re a simple but beautiful reminder of Rhodes’ maritime past. Come by in the late afternoon and you’ll see them bathed in warm golden light – a perfect time to appreciate their quiet strength and symmetry.
