The Church of the Virgin of the Burgh sits quietly in the heart of Rhodes Old Town, its arched ruins a silent witness to centuries of change. Built in the 14th century during the time of the Knights Hospitaller, it was once a grand Gothic church. Today, only the skeletal remains of its pointed arches and stone walls remain, but they're hauntingly beautiful. The church was badly damaged during World War II, and what's left has been carefully preserved as a historic site. Despite the passing of time, it still draws photographers and wanderers who stumble across it while exploring the medieval streets.
This front-on view of the main arches really shows the elegance that remains, even in ruins. I love the way the symmetry frames the sky, giving the structure a kind of solemn dignity. It's one of those places that stops you in your tracks when you turn a corner. If you like old stonework and stories you can almost hear, this would look great on your wall.
