Found sunbathing across Greece and the eastern Med, the starred agama (Stellagama stellio), also known as the roughtail rock agama, are little show-offs famous for their impressive colours and even more impressive attitude. Males especially love to puff up their throats and nod their heads when trying to look important - like tiny reptilian bodybuilders. Agamas can change colour slightly depending on their mood or the temperature, and they're brilliantly adapted to rocky, sun-blasted places like Agia Agathi Beach. You'll often spot them flattening themselves on warm stone, pretending to be casual, while keeping one eye fixed right on you. Sassy, ancient, and unbothered - they're lizards with presence.
This little one was halfway up the rock when he paused and casually turned to lock eyes with the camera. Soft beige with hints of yellow and blue, he blends beautifully into the rock - until he doesn't. There's something wonderfully nonchalant about him, like he knows he looks good and simply expects to be admired. Ideal for lovers of wildlife photography with a bit of attitude.
