Say hello to the roughtail rock agama, a little lizard with a big personality. Found across parts of southern Europe and the Middle East, this sun-loving reptile thrives in dry, rocky places - and Kos is pretty much perfect for them. They get their name from the spiny ridges on their tails, and when males are showing off in the heat of summer, they turn a striking blue on their heads and necks. You'll often spot them frozen like statues on sun-warmed stones, keeping one eye on you and the other on a nearby bug. Quick on their feet and full of attitude, agamas are the kind of locals that make a walk in the hills that bit more interesting.
This little guy was caught mid-creep across a sun-bleached rock on Kos, totally unbothered by the camera. There's something quietly charismatic about him - the scales, the grip of his claws, the way he's sizing you up.
