The moon jellyfish (Aurelia aurita) is one of the most widespread jellyfish species, found throughout the world’s oceans and commonly present in UK waters. Known for its translucent, dome-shaped bell and slow, drifting movement, it typically grows to around the size of a dinner plate. Composed of around 95% water, it has no brain, blood, or heart, moving passively with ocean currents as it feeds on plankton and small marine organisms.
Three jellyfish are arranged against a deep black background, their forms rendered in monochrome. One occupies the upper portion of the frame with a smooth, softly lit bell, while two others sit below, partially overlapping and revealing detailed internal structures.
