The red deer (Cervus elaphus) is one of the most recognisable species of the Scottish Highlands, with strong populations across areas such as Torridon in the Northwest Highlands. These deer are well adapted to a range of environments, from open hillsides to woodland edges, where cover and grazing are readily available. Stags, or harts, develop antlers each year, which grow under a soft velvet coating before hardening ahead of the breeding season.
Here, a stag rests low within a bed of bracken, its body partially concealed by dense foreground foliage. Its head is raised and facing forward, giving a direct, attentive presence within the frame. The velvet-covered antlers extend upward in smooth arcs, while the surrounding woodland forms a layered backdrop of vertical trunks and soft green tones. The shallow focus keeps the stag clearly defined against the textured environment.

Optional lamination is available in satin or gloss to match your selected paper, providing extra protection against moisture and handling. However, lamination is not recommended for Fine Art Matt paper, as it will obscure its authentic texture.
