The Humboldt penguin (Spheniscus humboldti) is a medium-sized penguin species native to the coasts of Peru and Chile, where it inhabits rocky shores and islands influenced by the cold Humboldt Current. Adapted to a warmer climate than many other penguin species, it feeds primarily on small fish such as anchovies and sardines. Recognised by its distinctive black-and-white markings and narrow chest band, it is well suited to life both in the water and on land.
Swimming just below the surface, the penguin is captured mid-glide with its flippers extended like wings. The clear turquoise water surrounds the bird, while the rippled surface above adds texture and depth.
