The cloisters of Durham Cathedral in County Durham form part of one of the most significant Norman ecclesiastical buildings in England, founded in 1093. Surrounding a central garth, these covered walkways were traditionally used by monks for study, meditation, and daily movement between different parts of the cathedral complex. Built in the medieval period and later modified, the cloisters reflect both the religious function of the site and the architectural strength that defines Durham Cathedral, home to the Shrine of St Cuthbert.
