Dùn Èistean, on the north east coast of the Isle of Lewis near the village of Knockaird in the Outer Hebrides, is a site layered with history spanning several periods. Archaeological evidence suggests occupation from at least the Iron Age, with later use continuing into the medieval era. The headland, once more isolated than it appears today, offered natural defensive advantages and a commanding view over the surrounding sea.
