Loch Ewe, on the west coast of Scotland, opens out toward the Atlantic and has long been a sheltered anchorage, particularly during the Second World War when it served as a gathering point for Arctic convoys. From Cove, the view looks westward across the loch toward the open sea, where changing light and weather shape the character of the landscape.
In this scene, the loch sits under a heavy evening sky, with a narrow band of light on the horizon marking the last of the summer daylight.
