This exposed moorland landscape is shaped by gritstone formations, harsh weather, and centuries of natural erosion. The area has a remote, open character, with scattered rock outcrops standing as landmarks across the plateau. It is also known for its role in aviation history, with nearby wreck sites marking past events on the moor.
