The moon jellyfish (Aurelia aurita) is one of the most widespread jellyfish species, found throughout the world’s oceans and commonly present in UK waters. Known for its translucent, dome-shaped bell and slow, drifting movement, it typically grows to around the size of a dinner plate. Composed of around 95% water, it has no brain, blood, or heart, moving passively with ocean currents as it feeds on plankton.
Two jellyfish overlap within a dark, featureless background, their forms rendered in monochrome. The foreground jellyfish reveals intricate internal structures and fine radial lines within the bell, while a second sits partially behind, adding depth and layering.
