The moon jellyfish is one of the most widespread jellyfish species, found throughout the world’s oceans and commonly seen in UK waters. Typically growing to around the size of a dinner plate, it drifts with ocean currents, using gentle pulsations to move through the water. Despite its delicate appearance, it poses little threat to humans, as its sting is too mild to cause harm. Composed of around 95% water, it has no brain, heart or blood, relying on simple nerve structures to respond to its surroundings.
