The moon jellyfish (Aurelia aurita) is one of the most common jellyfish species, found throughout the world’s oceans and frequently encountered in UK coastal waters. Recognised by its translucent bell and slow, pulsing movement, it typically grows to around the size of a dinner plate. Composed of around 95% water, it has no brain, blood, or heart, drifting with currents as it feeds on plankton and other small marine organisms.
Three jellyfish drift across a dark background, their semi-transparent forms glowing in cool violet-blue tones. One dominates the upper frame with a smooth, curved bell, while two others sit lower, partially overlapping and revealing intricate internal structures.
