Durham Castle in County Durham, England is a Norman fortress dating back to the 11th century, originally built to defend the region following the Norman Conquest. Over time, it evolved from a military stronghold into a place of residence and learning, and since 1840 it has been continuously occupied by University College, part of Durham University. As part of the Durham World Heritage Site, alongside the cathedral, it represents a significant piece of England’s architectural and cultural history.
