About the Image
The Castle Point Lime Kilns sit below Lindisfarne Castle on Holy Island, Northumberland (commonly referred to as just 'Lindisfarne'). They are a Scheduled Ancient Monument and some of the largest examples of their kind anywhere in the UK. The kilns operated aroundthe end of the 19th century, turning the limestone quarried elsewhere on the Island into quicklime.
