The King’s Caves on the Isle of Arran are a series of coastal caverns carved into red sandstone cliffs by centuries of wave action. Located along the island’s western shoreline, the caves are closely linked to local history and legend, with their formation shaped by the constant interaction between sea and rock. They are said to have been a refuge of Robert the Bruce and one of several locations in which it is said he had his famed encounter with a spider.
Several cave openings appear along the cliff face, each set within richly coloured rock. The shoreline below is scattered with stones, while low vegetation softens the upper edges of the cliffs. The composition moves along the line of the caves, creating a sense of scale and continuity.
