Cairnholy I - one of two Neolithic chambered cairns perched high on a hill 4km east of Carsluith, Scotland dating back over 5,000 years. Part of a pair of burial monuments, it reflects early funerary practices, where stone chambers were used for communal burials. These structures were often aligned with the landscape and held cultural or ceremonial significance for the communities that built them.
Tall, weathered stones stand in a clustered formation, their surfaces marked by age and lightly dusted with frost. The arrangement creates a sense of structure and enclosure, while the surrounding ground appears cold and subdued. A soft mist lingers in the background, partially veiling distant trees and reinforcing the quiet, atmospheric setting.
