Headstone Tunnel is part of the historic Midland Railway route that now forms the Monsal Trail through the Peak District. Built in the 19th century, it was designed to carry trains through the limestone landscape of the Wye Valley, reflecting the scale and ambition of Victorian engineering. Though no longer in use for rail, the tunnel remains a powerful reminder of the region’s industrial past, now repurposed as a route for walkers and cyclists.
