Standing on tall stone columns, the stag and doe (known locally as Elafos and Elafina) are said to mark the spot where the legendary Colossus of Rhodes once stood - one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. While there's no real evidence the Colossus actually straddled the harbour, it's a fun bit of myth to go with the view.
