Abercastle is a small, sheltered harbour along the Pembrokeshire coast, long used as a natural landing point between rugged headlands. In 1876, it marked the end of Alfred “Centennial” Johnson’s single-handed transatlantic voyage from Gloucester, Massachusetts, a remarkable feat of endurance and navigation. The harbour also holds quieter traces of maritime history, including the wreck of the SS Leysian, which lies just offshore on the western side, a reminder of the challenges posed by this coastline.
