Winscar Reservoir sits high on the eastern edge of the Peak District near the village of Dunford Bridge in South Yorkshire. Constructed in the 1970s to supply drinking water to the surrounding region, the reservoir flooded part of the former Winscar hamlet and now forms one of the quieter bodies of water within the Pennine landscape. Surrounded by open moorland and rolling hills, the reservoir lies close to the border between South Yorkshire and Derbyshire.
Dark storm clouds gather above the surrounding hills while the broad surface of the reservoir stretches across the foreground. Bands of light break through in the distance, illuminating sections of the green hillside along the far shore.
