Constructed in the 1970s to supply drinking water to the surrounding region, the reservoir flooded part of the former Winscar hamlet and now forms one of the quieter bodies of water within the Pennine landscape. Surrounded by open moorland and rolling hills, the reservoir lies close to the border between South Yorkshire and Derbyshire.
