The ruddy turnstone (Arenaria interpres) is a stocky, short-legged shorebird renowned for its distinctive habit of flipping over stones, shells, and seaweed with its sturdy, slightly upturned bill to uncover hidden prey. A highly migratory species, it breeds on the high Arctic tundra of northern Eurasia and North America before travelling vast distances to winter on coastlines across six continents, from rocky shores to sandy beaches.
