Strumble Head Lighthouse stands on Ynysmeicl, a small island off the Pembrokeshire coast, built to guide ships through a notoriously hazardous stretch of sea between Ireland and Fishguard Harbour. The surrounding waters were once the site of numerous shipwrecks, particularly during the 19th century, making the lighthouse an essential navigational aid. Automated since 1980, it continues to mark this exposed and historically significant coastline.
