Whitby Abbey stands on the cliffs above the North Sea, its origins dating back to the 7th century when it was founded as a monastery. The present ruins largely reflect later medieval rebuilding, with Gothic arches and towering windows defining its silhouette. The abbey has long been associated with both religious history and local legend, overlooking the harbour and coastline as a dominant landmark.
In this image, the ruins are reflected in still water in the foreground, creating a near-symmetrical composition.
