The moon jellyfish (Aurelia aurita) is one of the most common jellyfish species, found throughout the world’s oceans and frequently encountered in UK waters. Its translucent, dome-shaped bell and gentle drifting motion make it instantly recognisable. Typically reaching the size of a dinner plate, it is composed of around 95% water and, like all jellyfish, has no brain, blood, or heart, moving passively with ocean currents as it feeds on plankton.
