Ardvreck Castle stands on a small rocky promontory on the shores of Loch Assynt in the north-west Highlands of Scotland, close to the village of Lairg. Built in the late 15th century by the MacLeods of Assynt, the castle later became linked with one of the most famous episodes in Highland history when the defeated Marquis of Montrose was betrayed and captured here in 1650. Today the roofless ruin remains one of Scotland’s most strikingly placed castles, surrounded by wild landscapes and the quiet waters of the loch.
In this photograph, the ruined stone walls rise from the narrow spit of land that reaches into the loch, framed by open Highland scenery and distant hills. The frames use finger-jointed corners to maintain structural strength and resist warping over time. For larger sizes, discreet tensioning wedges are fitted to the corners, helping the canvas remain taut and allowing for adjustment in the future if required.
Each canvas is hand finished by experienced framers, ensuring clean folds and precise stretching on every corner. The 38mm deep frame provides a strong gallery-style presence on the wall, while a choice of black, white or image wrap edges allows the final presentation to suit your space.
The three canvases are designed to be hung with a small gap between each panel, creating a balanced panoramic display. Like all stretched canvases, they hang directly from the wooden stretcher frame, allowing the artwork to sit flush against the wall for a clean, contemporary finish.
