The moon jellyfish (Aurelia aurita) is one of the most widespread jellyfish species, found throughout the world’s oceans and commonly seen in UK coastal waters. Recognised by its translucent bell and slow, pulsing movement, it typically grows to around the size of a dinner plate. Composed of around 95% water, it has no brain, blood, or heart, drifting with ocean currents while feeding on plankton and small marine organisms.
A single jellyfish is suspended against a deep black background, its bell illuminated in vivid blue tones that highlight its delicate structure. Fine tentacles trail downward in soft, fluid strands, while subtle internal patterns are visible within the bell.
