The Siamese crocodile (Crocodylus siamensis) is a critically endangered species native to Southeast Asia, with remaining wild populations primarily found in Cambodia, Indonesia, and Thailand. Once more widespread, it has suffered severe declines due to habitat loss and historical hunting, with fewer than an estimated 1,000 individuals believed to remain in the wild. As one of the least studied crocodilian species, it is rarely seen, making encounters with individuals in managed environments particularly significant.
This is a captive Siamese Crocodile - one of only 4 in the UK.
Stretched across a cluster of pale rocks, the crocodile lies with its body partially extended and head resting forward. Its eye remains open, catching the light, while the textured scales and ridges across its back and limbs are clearly defined. The muted tones of stone contrast with the patterned skin, and the shallow depth of field softens the background, keeping focus on the animal’s form and detail.
