The Siamese crocodile (Crocodylus siamensis) is a critically endangered species native to Southeast Asia, with remaining wild populations primarily found in Cambodia, Indonesia, and Thailand. Once more widespread, it has suffered severe declines due to habitat loss and historical hunting, with fewer than an estimated 1,000 individuals believed to remain in the wild. As one of the least studied crocodilian species, it is rarely seen, making encounters with individuals in managed environments particularly significant.

Resting among pale rocks, the crocodile lies with its head slightly raised, its eye open and alert. The long, ridged snout extends across the frame, revealing rows of worn teeth and the heavy, textured scales that form its protective skin.
